His voice has been described by Dirty Linen magazine as “one of those pure warm Scottish voices one never tires of listening to”. He was the 2004 Scots Trad Music Awards Songwriter of the Year and a 2008 nominee for Scots Trad Music’s Singer of the Year.  For seven years he was the front man for the legendary Scottish group the Old Blind Dogs. On Thursday November 17th, Jim Malcolm brings his witty style and one-man show to the intimate setting of River House Inn in Ashe County for a special concert and dinner.

the ardmoresYou loved them at Wine Fest! Now The Ardmores bring their combination of Southern Rock and acoustic music to River House this Sunday for what promises to be a fun Sunday Salon celebrating our nation’s independence, complete with fireworks!

Visit: http://www.myspace.com/theardmores

Just about every Sunday beginning in April, our Sunday Salons at the River House Inn on the New River are patterned on the famous international “salons” of the past; featuring musical and theatrical performances, poetry readings, book signings, art displays and literary and historical discussions, followed by dinner. If you can’t make dinner, you’re welcome to stop by for the entertainment in the North Carolina mountains and a libation with hors d’oeuvre! But please call 336-982-2109 to reserve.

While we were never invited to those heady Parisian parties of the twenties and thirties – to hobnob with Hemingway and Gertrude Stein – the idea of such literary and artistic gatherings sounded appealing. Drop by at 4:00 for food and wine, music and conversation, perhaps a poetry reading or a short play, a book-signing, an exhibit of art or pottery, or an occasional film. Dinner, usually a four-course set menu, follows about 6:00.

Saturday, January 2nd – Clean out the Pantry Party!

Emile Pandolfi and Martha Bassett; bring your instruments and join in!!

North Carolinians have known Martha’s music for some time now, but in the past couple of years, she’s been finding a new audience throughout the southeast due to increased touring, her work on the Sony Classics film JUNEBUG, festival appearances, and numerous articles in the press. Martha and her band have opened for Lyle Lovett, played Merlefest, and are currently touring the east coast in support of the new disc “Sinner’s Prayer,” which features original Americana written by Martha and bandmate, Justin Poindexter. Although they are known for their ability to incorporate jazz, country, traditional, and rock standards into the live shows, it is their original music that fans appreciate most.
