Dave Desmelik is a singer-songwriter and instrumentalist whose musical focus is on original compositions. What attracts listeners to Desmelik’s tunes, old and new, is the element of authenticity incorporated in them. There is no sugar coating involved. His songs are not wrapped in false smiles, rather they are stark and open and tend to settle on the pulse of everyday life. An unclosed and evolving journal of thoughts set to music and melodies in prose and instrumental performance. Desmelik was born and raised just outside of Atlanta, GA, but has traveled and lived in a multitude of landscapes. He currently resides in Brevard, NC. He was an original member of Onus B. Johnson, a successful band based in Flagstaff, AZ in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. This band was on the front wave of jamgrass while maintaining the passion for songwriting. Sunday Salons at the River House Inn on the New River are patterned on the famous international “salons” of the past; featuring musical and theatrical performances, poetry readings, book signings, art displays and literary and historical discussions, followed by dinner. If you can’t make dinner, you’re welcome to stop by for the entertainment in the North Carolina mountains and a libation with hors d’oeuvre! But please call to reserve.

Sunday Salon on June 2nd: Patrick Lui, Classical Guitarist!

Patrick Lui, classical guitarist, will be the featured artist for the River House Sunday Salon on June 2nd.

An artist with a reputation for embodying both depth and precision in his  playing, guitarist Patrick Lui has established himself as both a notable performer and a gifted teacher.

Prize winner of several competitions, including the first Hong Kong Guitar Competition, the Yamaha Guitar Competition, and the Hong Kong, Macau, and Canton Invitational Guitar Competition, a finalist in the East Carolina Guitar Festival, and a semi-finalist in the Tokyo International Guitar Competition, his performances have been heard in the United States, Canada, Japan, and China. He has performed as a recitalist, a soloist with orchestras, and an ensemble player.

Patrick Lui holds degrees from North Carolina School of the Arts, Arizona State University, and has attended the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.  He has studied with such teachers as Wilson Yuen, Susan McKethan, Larry Almeida, Aaron Shearer, and Frank Koonce.  He has also worked in master’s classes with Gerald Garcia, Roberto Assuel, Robert Guthrie, Pepe Romero, and Manuel Burreco. Patrick Lui is an artist of depth and precision. His playing is at once
colorful, lyrical and technically dazzling.
